Point of Inquiry Podcast
29 September 2006DJ Grothe hosts a weekly radio podcast called Point of Inquiry. Every episode involves an interview with a prominent non-Christian. Most episodes also inlude some news about “skepticism” and various activities and organizations around the world. Sometimes, the podcast covers news stories that are relevant to atheism. Episodes range from about 30 minutes to one hour.
DJ Grothe is a good host, he speaks clearly and asks good questions. Point of Inquiry has some very high-profile personalities on the show, such as Michael Shermer, Richard Dawkins, and Bill Nye. The show mostly considers the existence of God, the life of Jesus Christ, and science issues. Science, particularly related to the Intelligent Design movement, is probably the most frequent topic. In addition to critiques of Christianity, Point of Inquiry also tries to debunk things like “alternative medicine” and psychics.
The podcast is also commercial free, which makes it much easier to listen to. This might be the best podcast available from the atheist viewpoint. The only thing I find annoying is that Grothe and his guests constantly refer to the “rational, scientific worldview” as if it is synonymous with nonbelief. In my opinion, I think this is completely illegitimate, since reason and science actually lead to belief in God. But this minor annoyance aside, the Point of Inquiry podcast is probably the best available if you are looking for a quality atheist podcast.
